‘Tis a 2011 Merry O’Christmas from the O’Berrys!

Top of the Christmas mornin’ to ya!  Twenty year old Abigale will fly to Ireland in January for one semester of studying abroad at the University of Ulster !  Located in Coleraine along the River Bann in Northern Ireland , our own Abbi O’Berry will enlighten our lives with her experiences in a new country. Marilyn may post an airport vigil from January through June. All other semesters Abbi has studied at Truman State University in Kirksville where she met her steady boyfriend Ethan.  Our family approves.  Abbi and Ethan worked as counselors for Kanakuk Kamps on Table Rock Lake this summer.  Alayna Grace and Boone were able to spend a week in Kanakuk Kamp 2011. Yes, all of Alan and Marilyn’s children were out of the house for seven days … an absolute first!  Engage your imagination.

Our annual “O’Berry” Family Christmas Show will be December 10^th at 6 pm at Memorial United Methodist Church with 22 singing Berrys .  Alan and Marilyn continue to sing together in area concerts. Sonny and Cher , Tina Turner, and Jimmy Buffet have resurfaced.  Guitarzan is a high point . Big family news is Alan and the Berry Brothers performed sixteen sets at Silver Dollar City in Branson again this year. Berry Brothers are becoming regulars at SDC.  Both Alan and Marilyn teach school for Farmington and for Missouri Baptist University .  Alan ministers on the staff of two churches – MUMC and Doe Run First Baptist Church . Marilyn and the kids also worship at First Baptist Church Farmington, sing in FBC choirs and participate in FBC education programs and the youth group.  Although it seems difficult for all to fathom that this is true – Marilyn loves to go camping.  Our family has been several times this year complete with tents, toasty sleeping bags, dinners cooked on the open fire, and Alan’s midnight guitar serenades under the stars.  Peaceful, reflective times with our kids and each other make “camp” the new “cruise”. 

Alayna Grace O’Berry is cheering on Abbi’s travels!  Thirteen year old Alayna is a captain on the FMS cheerleading squad and turns heads with her inner beauty when she enters a room.  She is devoted to her study of ballet, Pointe, tap, jazz, and dance performance at Ballet Arts Center .  Alayna Grace is performing vocally alongside the Berry Brothers and in the recording studio.  She just might have the best voice in the family.  She studies piano and flute. Alayna Grace loves spending the night in Abbi’s dorm room and texting … mostly texting.

Boone O’Berry is a fourth grader who focuses on sports.  This summer Boone went to Bates Creek Camp, Kanakuk, and MAC baseball camp.  Alan and his son Mark coached Boone’s baseball team to championship status.  Boone likes to play catcher.  Boone will play basketball in the Upward Program at Desloge First Baptist Church this spring. Boone’s best friend in the world is Hayden – our honorary son, and Boone’s current girlfriend is Abbi’s college roommate Haley.  Our family approves of Haley despite the ten year age difference. Boone – like his dad – holds lofty aspirations.

Alan’s son Mark lives in Bonne Terre and enjoys playing his bass guitar in a local band named Stonewall. Alan’s daughter Amy lives in Scott City and mothers her three active children, Isiah, Eli, and Zoe. 

Marilyn’s mom took a tumble in February which set her back quite a bit.  We are thankful for her recovery and for our strong and loving Dad to help Mom. The Berry Brothers are looking forward to performing at the Morgan’s church in Cape this season.  Alan’s dad continues to preach at Mt. Pisgah and his mom plays the piano.  What blessings these four grandparents are to us and our children.

Performing at Silver Dollar City would have put Lexi in heaven if she could have been on stage with the Berrys this year.  One of Lexi’s life dreams was to sing in Branson.  She would have been twenty-one years old on the 4^th of July.  Inside a treasure box Marilyn keeps the small blue sequined dress that Lexi envisioned and Mommy sewed for her when she was six years old.  In her Bible there is a small swatch of that sequined material.

No doubt Lexi’s heaven has blue sequins.  Abbi’s heaven will have green shamrocks.  Alayna Grace’s heaven will have ballet.  Boone’s heaven will have basketballs and baseballs.  Alan and Marilyn’s heaven will have each other, our parents, and all of our children in sight with Lexi hosting the tour.  Our heaven will have snow days in succession, traveling at a whim, back rubs, sunsets, tents, quiet dinners, and our Heavenly Father to worship for eternity.
